Deon Joubert was born and educated in South Africa. He studied at the University of Stellenbosch and graduated with a BSc Agric, then a Post Graduate MSc in Applied Economics.
He worked as an Economist for the Dept Agriculture for 8 years and played rugby for the Bellville Rugby Club First team. He is member of both the SA Agricultural Economic Society and the SA Society for Agricultural Extension.
He rose through the ranks and was appointed as the Councilor Economics at the SA Mission to the EU [Brussels] in June 1990, dealing with all aspects of SA Agricultural Trade and Market Access. Agreements on Wine, Meat, Animal Health, Fruit [Citrus and Deciduous] access and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade [GATT], as well as Academic Cooperation were concluded during his tour. During this time he learnt to speak both German and French.
Upon his return to SA, he was appointed Head of Parliamentarian Services and Marketing Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture, where he spent 3yrs. In 1997 he became CEO for the Deciduous Fruit Board and works on the merger between Unifruco and Outspan in 1998. Since Jan 1999 he has filled various Management positions in Capespan on Procurement, Marketing and Logistics.
Since December 2006, Deon heads up the Capespan Operations Division, both contracting and executing Logistics on all trade from South African. He is instrumental in changing the Capespan supply chain model from 85% Conventional in 2006 to 94% Container this year. He is highly passionate on Supply Chain Efficiency and Effectiveness, seeking shortened supply chains & has worked hard on up & downstream integration of trade lanes. This has lead to a massive decrease in dwell [storage] & growth in JIT [just in time] logistics with substantial cost savings for his company.
